This is a wedding that I was super excited to photograph! Ashley & Brendan had chosen St. Raphael’s Ruins to get married at. For everyone that has been there, you know how amazing it is. Now just imagine getting married there! On Saturday October 13th Ashley & Brendan said their “I do’s”. Here’s their story in Ashley’s words.
“Brendan and I met in highschool; specifically in drama club. I was asked to fill in for an actor who wouldn’t be able to perform two days before a school play. Brendan was something like the star of the show. From that day we started spending time together. We quickly learned that we rode the same bus home from school and that our houses were only about 4 properties apart, well within walking distance. So the walks down the gravel road across his house began. And continued continued and continued. We became best friends and supported each other through some tough high-school moments. Although I’m not sure what was going on in his head, one evening Brendan decided kissing me would be a good idea, and the rest is history.
He soon went off to Queen’s University, and we stuck it out through two years of long distance. Our parents were gracious and patient, driving us up and down the 401 and letting me visit him in Kingston. I don’t know if they knew then what they had gotten themselves into, but if it weren’t for their support and dedication to their kids those years would have been a struggle.
I soon followed Brendan up to Queen’s where we studied for two years together before Brendan graduated and came back to our home town to start his new job. Two more years of long distance and dedication later, I moved home and we quickly started searching for an apartment. At that point we both knew I wanted to continue my studies but decided the long distance part of our relationship was over. So we settled in an apartment in Ingleside and I made the daily commute to Ottawa for classes for another two years.
In my third year of my college program I had to complete hospital training in Kingston (yes, more long distance). It was a Friday night in September after a twelve hour shift that I drove home to find Brendan waiting in our kitchen with a packed picnic basket. He drove me out to the gravel road we spent so many hours walking together, and laid out a blanket and unpacked some snacks. He pointed out some constellations and we watched for shooting stars, and eventually he popped the question. After looking forward to this moment for about nine years I distinctly remember my response being “Are you serious? Are you serious?!” and then later telling him to ask me again so my answer could be Yes.
He had the entire next day planned – a family lunch at the restaurant of our first date so we could make our grand reveal, and then a party planned with friends in the evening so we could spread the word.”
How amazing is that! I truly love to hear your stories of how you met and fell in love!
Although it was a little chilly the day of this wedding, the sun was shining and love was in the air!
